MONCTON, NB, November 17, 2013 - The Saint John Warriors powered by a five goal second period outburst, defeated the Bedford Blues 6-3 in the Championship Game of the Midget Minor division at the Monctonian Midget AAA tournament taking place at the Red Ball Internet Center in
Moncton, NB.

The opening minutes of the first period were very tight checking, with the first shot on goal coming almost five minutes in the period. Warriors forward Gregor Holt tallied the games first goal, after converting the Matthew Fudge saucer pass, five hole past Bedford netminder Ryan Higginson. Kyle Anderson also earned an assist on the play. Saint John outshot Bedford 7-3 in the opening period.

The second period featured a quicker pace than the opening twenty minutes, and fans were treated to a total of seven goals being scored.

Michael Roscoe walked out from the right corner and roofed a shot over goalie Higginson, to put the Warriors up by two. That two goal lead was short lived as the Blues lit the lamp just 20 secs later. Dylan Burton converted the cross crease pass from Jaten Smith to get the Blues on the board. Less than a minute after their initial tally the Blues tied the game as Shannon Ledrew slipped one past Warriors netminder Tommy Kingston.

The Warriors quickly regained control of the game, as they exploded for four unanswered goals in the second period. Connor Murphy, Matthew Fudge and Liam Frigault countered in quick succession for Saint John, with the Frigault tally leading to the Blues making a change in goal. Goaltender Brendan Cregan came in to replace Ryan Higginson for the remainder of the game.

Goalie Cregan was tested early, as the Warriors continued to press for more. Cregan was forced to make three difficult saves upon entering the game. Saint John finally beat Cregan, with the man advantage, as Kyle Anderson unleashed a howitzer high over Cregan's left shoulder. Liam Frigault tallied an assist on the play. Saint John outshot Bedford in the second period 18-7, with both of Bedfords goalies facing 9 shots each.

Despite the score, the Blues refused to quit, and their persistence and hard work was rewarded on the scoreboard. Rory Moore, from Shannon Ledrew and Philip Elford, buried the rebound from in close past goalie Kingston. The Blues outshot the Warriors 10-6 in the final period.

Warriors goalie Tommy Kingston claimed the victory in goal, turning aside 18 of 20 shots. Blues netminder Ryan Higginson is saddled with the loss. The Blues tandem of Higginson and Bredan Cregan kicked out 25 of 31 shots. 

Saint John forward Liam Frigault was named MVP of the Midget Minor Championship game.
