The PEI Midget AAA Hockey League will begin it's post-season Tuesday night on two fronts.

The two-time defending Island and Atlantic Champion, #3 Mid-Isle Robert's Petro Canada Matrix will host game one of their opening round series at 7:30 at APM Centre to begin defence of their titles against the #6 Kings County Kings. The Matrix are a young team, with 13 players that have not been through the long playoff runs of the last two years and will look to their veterans to get the job done this season including league-leading scorer, Spencer McAllister. The Kings are coming into the post-season on a high note after a convincing 6-2 win over the top-seeded Red Devils in their season finale. They will look to carry their momentum into the opening round.

The #4 Western Regals will also open up at home on Tuesday night when they host the #5 Sherwood Drug Mart Falcons. "We have played them tough throughout the winter and they have been playing good hockey lately," says coach, Brett Corcoran. "We will look to be disciplined, have a balanced scoring attack, and receive solid play from both of our goaltenders in our playoff run." Game time is 8:05 in Alberton.

The #2 Charlottetown Brighton Construction Abbies will host game one of their quarter-final series on Wednesday at 6:30 at Simmons against the #7 Summerside Hemphill GM Capitals. "We are looking forward to having a full lineup for the first time since mid-December, and will rely on our depth to bring us success," says Abbies head coach, Ryan Ramsay. The Capitals understand their position in the standings after the regular season and have a great deal of respect for the team their up against but will rely on key veterans to lead the team to an upset. "They are dangerous offensively and you can't take a shift off against a strong, talented team like Charlottetown," says Summerside coach, Greg Paynter. "We have to be willing to get to the dirty areas in order to be successful."

The #1 Pownal Gaudet's Auto Body Red Devils will sit out the opening round after earning the bye. They've already captured the Spud and Monctonian this year and will look to continue their dominance of the Minor Midget AAA ranks in the post-season.

This years playoffs should prove to be one of the most competitive yet, coming off a regular season in which the average margin of victory was almost a full goal closer than the last two seasons.
