Above, you see the Pownal Taco Boyz Red Devils and Mid Isle Matrix standing united in their fight against cancer, during the national anthem .   The Pownal Taco Boyz Red Devils hosted the first of two #Hockey FightsCancer games between the two teams, raising more than $900 that the Red Devils will be donating to the Canadian Cancer Society.    The same two teams face-off Friday night in Cornwall as Mid Isle hosts their #HockeyFightsCancer game.

Members of the Pownal Taco Boyz Red Devils invited special guests to their pre-game ceremony in their #HockeyFightsCancer game last night at the Pownal Sports Centre. The guest were invited as a tribute to the battle they had/have with cancer or the fight they went through with loved ones that battled the disease.

The Pownal Red Devils and Mid Isle Matrix, of the PEI Midget AAA Hockey League, will be battling for more than 4 points next week when they play a home and home series against each other.

On the ice, the games are as big as they get at this time of year with only 1 point separating the two clubs in the fight for third place. Off the ice, there will be a special feel in the rinks as the teams have joined together to raise money for The Canadian Cancer Society and to pay tribute to those who are fighting, or have fought, cancer.

In Pownal, Monday, December 3rd, a special ceremonial puck drop will precede the 7:40 game time and the players will be using special tape and helmet decals to symbolize their Fight Against Cancer. Friday, December 7th, the scene shifts to Cornwall for a 7:40pm start and another night of special events, hosted by Mid Isle. All student admission, 50/50 proceeds and donations will be given to the Canadian Cancer Society as part of these "Hockey Fights Cancer" games.

The teams released a joint statement saying, "all players on both teams have been impacted by cancer in some way. Players are taking ownership of this night as they reflect on the disease that affects so many. They are excited to be given the opportunity to pay tribute to those that have been fought the cancer fight, while playing the game they're so fortunate to play."

Both teams encourage hockey fans of all ages to come out to these games for some entertaining hockey and to support a great cause.
